On August 19, just two weeks before Labor Day, the 5th Circuit Appeals Court kneecapped the NLRB, the agency that has protected workers’ rights nearly a century.

Can there be a more appropriate time to reaffirm my unwavering support for unions and union workers?

My commitments

I made 3 commitments around unions and workers rights early on in my campaign, and I’m publicly reaffirming them now:

1. I will purchase my campaign literature from union printers

I have consistently hired union shops for my campaign printing, for banners, brochures, posters, and yard signs. You will find a union bug proudly displayed on almost everything I give out to my constituents - from banners to yard signs to pamphlets to stickers.1

2. I will stand with unions

I will continue my actions, informed by my personal beliefs and values. I do not cross picket lines. I boycott when the unions leaders request it, and maintain pressure on companies with comments and petitions when union leaders tell the public not to boycott. I attend protests, like Fight Like Hell with the National Association of Letter Carriers. I contribute to strike funds with my personal finances.

As your King County Council representative, I would have access to more impactful official actions. Until then, I will start doing the same things I would in office: If you invite me, I will march your picket lines with you. I will attend your meetings - to listen, learn, and share as invited.

3. If elected, i will work to strengthen king county’s worker rights.

I will oppose right-to-work laws from being introduced in our county. I will champion budgets that fund the locally-organized programs that already know how to serve your needs, like the flexible childcare program for night-shift workers that Pierce County is developing with their local labor unions. I will introduce ordinances that extend apprenticeship utilization beyond public works construction, caucus with state legislators to include striking workers in unemployment insurance, and join other initiatives that address the power imbalance between employers and workers.

What I need from you

I need your voice. Your voice is my purpose. But I can’t effectively carry your voice to the council if I never hear it.

  • Has an upcoming meeting that you’d like me to attend

  • Has a charity event coming up that could use more volunteers

1: For full disclosure, my campaign has unfortunately made 3 purchases from non-union printers, which will not be repeated.

  • In mid June, we purchased an early batch of stickers with my old logo from a local small business. We purchased the new run of hat stickers from Allied Label #47 shop Loris Printing.
  • In late June, we made a rush purchase of 6 logo t-shirts for campaign staffers (my family) from another local small business. Updated shirts and merchandise will be sold online through a union shop.
  • On July 3, we purchased a same-day batch of a dozen rally signs from the couple who run the local Enumclaw Printery. We’ve since worked with several local union printers we can lean on for last-minute printing.

Anything printed after July 4, 2025 either has the union bug, or was personally printed by me or my family at our home.

In total, our 3 non-union purchases totalled about $300. As of August 19, we have made 3 purchases of 9 different products from union print shops, totalling approximately $1100. Our transparency reports have more details on how we have used campaign funds.
